The myth of Kourites

KouritesKourites in Crete were believed to be the guardians of Zeus as a baby. They covered his cries with the noise from their shields and arms in order not to be heard by the god Kronos. It was also generally believed to be Zeus followers as the Satyrs were for Dionysos. The number of Kourites was 10 and many cities in Crete were named after them.

It was generally believed that Kourites set the bases of the culture of mutual living of people, protecting the cities and their citizens. They created laws in order to keep the peace among the citizens and taught them how to use fire, working with metal, use of weapons as well as the benefits of nutritious food like the honey, among others.
